Ascension Academy Choir wins TAPPS 2A state vocal championship

Ascension Academy Choir has earned the 2A State title this past weekend at the TAPPS State Vocal Championships in Waco, Texas, according to a news release.

The team won the Large Ensemble Sweepstakes with a 1-1-1, Superior Ratings, on all judges’ sheets. A 1 is the highest rating in this competition. The team also garnered a Superior rating on Sight-Reading.

Some of the judges’ comments on their performance were, “very musical and sensitive”, “well-executed and expressed from beginning to end”, and a “poised ensemble” with “wonderful attention to tuning, balance, and blend.”

In addition, two students, Hannah Nguyen, Class of 2023 and Chris Teichmann, class of 2022 received a 1 Superior rating on their solo performances.

The Ascension Academy competing Choir members were Eli Chow, Joshua Marshall, Brooklyn Bull, Belle Buse, Kate Williamson, Hannah Nguyen, Chris Teichmann and Payton Stewart. They are led by Choir & Band Director, Mr. Mykel Byersmith.
