Although famous for being a style trendsetter, fashion designer, topnotch entrepreneur, a skilled singer, and a devoted mother of three, Jessica Simpson is more than that. She’s an icon who has endured relentless body shaming, a marriage that went south, and epic career successes and failures– under the full glare of the public eye. She is also the poster woman for “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.”

She began her foray into the music industry with the official release of her album in 1999, “Sweet Kisses.”

She then went on to release her sophomore album, “Irresistible,” in 2001.

Since then, she has grown by leaps and bounds while dabbling into other careers on the side. Recently, she got on the public radar when she spoke about her weight loss journey and how emotional it made her feel anytime she talked about it.

‘I Am So Proud Of Myself’

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly on Thursday, the singer spoke about her weight and the strides she had made. She added that she wasn’t going to call it a weight loss journey but a journey of self-love and acceptance.

“It’s one of those things [where] it’s, like, we all want what we can’t have. We all want the body type that we aren’t [and] that we can’t change. So it’s about accepting and loving ourselves for who we are.”

She concluded, “For me, I have done that at every size [and] I just feel every woman should be celebrated.”

The “Take My Breath Away” songstress showed off her progress earlier this month when she was spotted wearing a bikini in a selfie she posted while on a getaway with her family.

She recalled in the same interview of the now-viral selfie pictures, claiming that she had no idea she was going to put on a bikini.

“I put on the bikini [and] I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I can wear a bikini. This happened.’”

She noted in the caption of her Instagram post that she had gained and lost nearly 300 pounds and never thought she would ever be confident to put on a bikini.

“I was so proud of myself and I was proud of my resilience. No matter what people say, I think that the positive comments about [my weight loss journey] are what I hold onto and it’s the reason why I posted [the Instagram photo] — for that one person to go in and feel better about themselves and to work really hard.”

She also mentioned that she had now shifted to outfits that are a must-have for her present body type, adding

there was no way she’d ever go back to her skinny jeans. In addition, she claimed that after having children, the hips never go back to normal, and the body entirely changes.

She mentioned that it was the most freeing thing ever, adding that she rid herself of measuring her weight to expectations and having people tell her how fat or thin she should be.

She mentioned that although using the scale messed up her entire day, she still used it up until her husband, Eric Johnson, tossed it into the trash can.

“We have a goal, right? But I say throw out the scale,” she concluded at the time.

However, she has since learned to ignore the negative comments as she strives to be a positive role model. She also hopes to inspire her kids via her actions from her.
